The State Theatre

- cultural centre of the fortress city
Ballet, comedy, fairy tales, musicals, opera, operettas, drama: Throughout the year, the Coburg State Theatre has something for every taste in its program. At the conclusion of some of the performances, the actors make themselves available for questions, suggestions and critique from the audience. It's an exciting opportunity for those in the know.
LandestheaterAs well as the main building with room for 550 visitors, the State Theatre also includes a studio stage that has 99 seats. It is the riding arena, not far from Ehrenburg Castle at the rise to the Court Garden.  Since its founding in 1827 by the Duke of Sachsen-Coburg and Gotha, the theatre has served as a stage for significant actors, dancers, singers, instrumentalists and directors. Just a small sample includes the composers and directors Franz Liszt and Richard Strauss. The current program can be viewed at www.landestheater-coburg.de
