HIKING & CYCLING

For the active lifestyle, Coburg and its surroundings offer a multitude of hiking trails and cycleways, plus many other sports – for every level of fitness.

HIKING

Discover the town on foot

During the Romance era, walking through the countryside inspired many a writer, poet, and thinker; just like Friedrich Rückert after whom a hiking trail is named (Friedrich Rückert trail). It is a truly wonderful area to explore on foot, whether for a hike or just a short, relaxing stroll. Along the way, there are many places to stop and rest, or stay overnight. Nature trails through rolling hills and forests, multi-day tours from castle to castle, following the Pilgrim’s Way of St. James, or hikes through nature reserve: just slip on those hiking boots, pack that backpack and off you go!

CYCLING

Coburg by bike

The pleasantly clement weather of springtime or late summer is the perfect time for setting off on a bike trip around the region. For trekking bikes, racing bikes, mountain bikes and e-bikes, throughout the region there is a fabulous selection of routes, both on asphalted cycleways and quiet country paths. For the beginner and the advanced cyclist alike, there is a broad spectrum of cycleways, ranging from flat, easy routes to sporty, steep trails, past castles, river plains, historical buildings, or through hills, meadows and fields – perfect conditions for a family bike trip, the casual day tripper, or even the professional cyclist.
